HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT TOILET BOWL IN SINGAPORE? (TORNADO VORTEX, RIMLESS, WASH DOWN WC)

Introduction

The toilet is such an important place in our home, considering from a poll of 2,500 subjects - Men, on average, spend about 855.8 days of their lives in the bathroom, or 2 years and 125 days. Compare this to women, who spend about 770.8 days of their lives in the bathroom (wow, right?).

In addition to its functional role, the toilet can also be an important space for relaxation and self-care. Many people enjoy taking a long soak in a bath or shower, or using the toilet as a place to read or meditate. For some people, the bathroom is a place where they can have some peace and quiet away from the rest of the house, and as such, it can be an important part of their daily routine.

That being said, a good toilet is truly an integral part that we can never ignore should we want to pursue a quality life. But as we all already know, choosing the right toilet bowl for home is not that easy. There are more factors to consider when buying a toilet bowl than you might think. Among the things you have to consider include “What are the types of toilet available to choose from?” “How much is a standard toilet bowl?” and “Which type of toilet is the best?” - so that you can get exactly what you are looking for.

Types of Toilet Bowls (WC) in Singapore

It can be quite overwhelming to hear various opinions from different sources, such as showrooms, interior designers, brands, friends, and family when it comes to selecting a toilet bowl as each model has its own advantages and disadvantages. The following are some of the different types of toilet bowls that you may come across in Singapore:

Wash-Down Toilet Bowl

A Wash-Down toilet bowl is the most common type of flushing system. This is the kind of toilet bowl that you'd see in most generic BTOs, Condos, and new projects.

This type of toilet bowl is a cost-effective option as it is typically priced at only half the cost of other flushing systems. In addition, it has a full round water outflow that can cover the entire surface of the inner bowl.

However, the inner bowl of the toilet has a rim at the very top through which water flows. This rim can be challenging to clean, and since it remains wet, it can become a breeding ground for algae and mold, leading to unpleasant odors in your toilet over time.(refer to arrow 1 below)

Another point to note is that the water flush does not reach the top of the inner bowl, but any splashes from toilet use will. This means that you may need to regularly clean the toilet bowl or use a bidet spray in the event of any "spicy accidents". (refer to arrow 2 below)

In conclusion, if you are looking for a toilet bowl that simply gets the job done, this type of toilet bowl can be a good option. However, it's important to be aware that regular cleaning will be necessary to maintain its cleanliness due to the lack of water reaching the top of the inner bowl.

Rimless Toilet Bowl

A Rimless Toilet Bowl has a similar appearance to a traditional Wash-Down WC, but its rimless design makes a significant difference in the cleanliness of your bathroom. In a traditional Wash-Down toilet, there is a rim around the inner edge of the bowl and water enters the bowl from under the rim when you flush. However, it can be difficult to clean under the rim, and the downward flow of the water may not always remove all solids from the bowl after flushing.

Rimless toilet bowls are designed without a rim around the top of the bowl. This allows for a more efficient and hygienic flush, as there are no hidden crevices or corners where bacteria and germs can collect. Instead, the water is directed around the inside of the bowl, washing away waste and debris. Rimless toilet bowls are also easier to clean, as there are no hard-to-reach areas.

If you are looking for a toilet bowl that is easy to clean, a Rimless Toilet Bowl is your best option. However, it's worth noting that it uses approximately 4L per flush, which is more than the approximate 3.5L per flush used by a Tornado Flushing Toilet Bowl.

Tornado / Vortex Flushing Toilet Bowl

This new flushing system cleans and flushes both the rim and bowl in an innovative way. It does this by re-imagining the way a toilet flushes. Tornado flushing toilet bowls are designed to use centrifugal force to create a powerful flush that cleans the bowl more thoroughly than a traditional flush. When the user flushes the toilet, water is released from the tank and directed into the bowl through two nozzles, which creates a swirling vortex that effectively cleans the bowl. Toilet bowls with tornado flush are known for their superior cleaning performance compared to other flushing systems. They are also highly water-efficient, using less water than traditional flush toilets. Most tornado flushing WC models use approximately 3.5L per full flush, which is less than the 4-6L used by other toilet flushing systems.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is necessary to understand and choose your new toilet bowl wisely, since you and your family are going to spend a significant time on it for the years to come. In recent years, the Singapore government has also implemented initiatives to encourage the use of more water-efficient flushing systems in residential and commercial buildings, as part of their efforts to promote sustainable living.

Overall, the choice of toilet flushing system in Singapore will depend on factors such as water efficiency, cost, and personal preferences. However, the Singapore government's focus on sustainability means that more water-efficient flushing systems such as Tornado/Vortex flush are likely to become increasingly common in the years to come.
